Rancher Labs Accelerates Momentum with 161 Percent Growth in Revenue and 52 Percent Growth in New Customers

New software releases, global expansion initiatives, and additional funding drive the container management platform leader to new heights

Cupertino, Calif. – July 23, 2019Rancher Labs, the leading provider of container management software, today announced that it recorded 161 percent year-on-year revenue growth and increased its number of customers by 52 percent since the start of 2019, the best first half of a year since the company launched its first product in 2016.  This rapid growth demonstrates increasing industry-wide demand for Rancher Labs’ software, which allows users to easily manage all aspects of running Kubernetes at scale, on any infrastructure, across the data center, cloud, branch offices, and the network edge.  In addition, Rancher Labs closed a $25M series C funding round, with the majority of the new financing raised with existing investors, and one new investor:  F&G Ventures. The new round brings the total amount raised by the company to $55M.

“We are grateful to our community of customers, partners, and users for the growth we achieved in the first half of 2019,” said Sheng Liang, co-founder and CEO of Rancher Labs. “We are addressing a critical need for Kubernetes management, and we will use the additional funding to continue our focus on product innovation and global expansion.”Rapid Market Adoption

In the first half of 2019, Rancher Labs continued to deliver on their mission to help organizations run Kubernetes everywhere.  The company announced general availability of Rancher 2.2 – their flagship container management platform – which introduced support for multi-cluster applications and advanced monitoring, delivered by Prometheus.

The company also continued their investment in open source projects, including:

  • Rio – a new MicroPaaS that enables developers to build, test, deploy, scale, and version stateless applications in any Kubernetes cluster.
  • Longhorn – a cloud native solution providing distributed, replicated block storage for Kubernetes clusters.
  • k3s, a new lightweight Kubernetes distribution ideal for use in remote locations.
  • k3OS, a new operating system purpose-built for k3s.

Global Expansion

In the first half of 2019, Rancher expanded support to all leading Kubernetes services in China including Baidu Cloud Container Engine (CCE), Alibaba Cloud Container Service for Kubernetes (ACK), and Tencent Kubernetes Engine (TKE), enabling organizations to accelerate their adoption of Kubernetes in China.

The company also doubled international headcount and continues to grow their global presence, expanding operations into 12 countries, including the US, Canada, UK, France, Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Spain, Australia, China, Japan, and Egypt.

What Customers are Saying

“Rancher has been a great management platform for our GKE clusters to deliver a single pane of glass, isolation of workloads between teams and an excellent developer experience adjacent to our CI/CD platform,” said Chris Fordham, senior manager, Cloud Platforms & DevOps, Scentre Group Technology.

“TSB uses Rancher as it provides a truly vendor-agnostic approach for running diverse workloads across private and cloud providers,” said Judge Gifkins, product owner, Technology Services, TSB Bank. “Since implementing Rancher our time-to-deploy has reduced significantly as we’re able to harness the power of cloud native technology with little effort as Rancher does all the heavy lifting for us.”

“We run a hybrid environment with tight SLAs as a business requirement, and Rancher has enabled us to leapfrog years of technical debt to provide four nines (and counting) on containerized applications,” said Bob Ready, DevOps manager, INTL FCStone Inc. “We can let our developers focus entirely on taking business logic from concept to production, and at the 3-year mark we are running over 3,000 services on the Rancher platform.”
