Univa Announces Kubernetes-Compatible Management Tool for Containers

Univa, a high-performance computing (HPC) solutions provider, hopes to expand its presence in the container and microservices market with the announcement of what it calls a “first of its kind” enterprise container management tool, Navops Command, which runs on top of Kubernetes.

Navops Command extends the functionality of Navops Launch, a platform that combines Kubernetes, Docker and Red Hat Atomic to offer container environment that organizations can deploy out-of-the-box.

While Navops Launch is designed to simplify the setup of a cluster for running containers, Navops Command adds management features. They include scheduling algorithms, SLA management policies and support for automating resource priorities.

In other words, Navops Command is designed to make the core Kubernetes functionality more accessible. It’s a solution for organizations that want advanced orchestration capabilities for container environments without having to invest in deep Kubernetes expertise. It also automates the efficient management of cluster resources, according to Univa.

“Deploying and running container-based applications in complex, brownfield environments yields many complexities and challenges,” said Rob Lalonde, Vice President and General Manager of Navops. “Navops Command allows for enterprise-grade container placement based on real-world, complex use cases by leveraging advanced policy management, allowing business to optimize resource utilization at scale.”

Navops Command supports all current Kubernetes distributions and can work on on-premise, cloud and hybrid infrastructures, the company says.

The product, which Univa announced at OSCON on May 18, is not yet generally available, but organizations can apply for early access online.
