Aqua Adds Automation Enhancements and “Secrets” Protection to Its Container Security Platform
New Functionality and Integrations Underscore Aqua’s Ability to Deliver Practical, Comprehensive Security Throughout the Entire Container Lifecycle
DockerCon 16: Seattle Washington, June 21 2016 – Approximately one month after the global launch of its Container Security Platform, Aqua today announced its first set of enhancements and is launching version 1.1 of its platform at DockerCon 2016.
“It’s become crystal clear to us that the use of containers in enterprises of all sizes is not coming – it’s already here,” said Amir Jerbi, CTO, Aqua. “These enhancements reflect the needs and requirements of our customers and prospects, and we will continue to innovate at the pace of the market.”
New functionality includes:
- A native Jenkins plug-in: This plug in adds an Aqua Security step to the CI pipeline that enables organizations to automate container image security scanning, report within the CI/CD tool on vulnerabilities found, and allow/disallow the use of images according to policy.
- Integration with HPE’s next generation application lifecycle management (ALM) solution, Octane. Through this integration, Aqua is defined as a new type of ALM security test, allowing development teams to view how their pipelines have fared in security testing, and to set rules as to what constitutes a “pass” mark.
- Environment variables encryption: This new feature protects container “secrets” by encrypting environment variables. As images are updated, pushed and pulled from the registry, any sensitive data (such as passwords) – commonly referred to in developer circles as “secrets” – are automatically encrypted. This way, the data is only accessible to approved processes running inside the container, and completely inaccessible to the outside world.

Aqua now extends security policy enforcement to container development and delivery environments via integration with HPE ALM, allowing to set security tests as part of the CI/CD pipeline,” said Erez Yaary, Senior Director, HPE Software Chief Technologist.
